<p><b>(472) Roma</b> ist ein <a href="Asteroid" title="Asteroid">Asteroid</a> des mittleren <a href="Asteroideng%C3%BCrtel" title="Asteroidengürtel">Hauptgürtels</a>, der am 11. Juli 1901 vom italienischen Astronomen <a href="Luigi_Carnera" title="Luigi Carnera">Luigi Carnera</a> an der <a href="Landessternwarte_Heidelberg-K%C3%B6nigstuhl" title="Landessternwarte Heidelberg-Königstuhl">Großherzoglichen Bergsternwarte</a> in Heidelberg bei einer <a href="Scheinbare_Helligkeit" title="Scheinbare Helligkeit">Helligkeit</a> von 11,8 mag entdeckt wurde.
</p><p>Der Asteroid ist benannt nach <a href="Rom" title="Rom">Rom</a>, der Hauptstadt Italiens, dem Heimatland des Entdeckers. Die Benennung erfolgte durch den italienischen Astronomen <a href="Antonio_Abetti" title="Antonio Abetti">Antonio Abetti</a>.<sup id="cite_ref-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>Aufgrund ihrer Bahneigenschaften wird (472) Roma zur <a href="(170)_Maria#Maria-Familie" title="(170) Maria">Maria-Familie</a> gezählt. Sie ist in dieser Familie das größte Mitglied.<sup id="cite_ref-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-2"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>2<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>

<div class="mw-heading mw-heading2"><h2 id="Wissenschaftliche_Auswertung">Wissenschaftliche Auswertung</h2></div>
<p>Aus Ergebnissen der <a href="Infrared_Astronomical_Satellite" title="Infrared Astronomical Satellite">IRAS</a> Minor Planet Survey (IMPS) wurden 1992 erstmals Angaben zu Durchmesser und <a href="Albedo" title="Albedo">Albedo</a> für zahlreiche Asteroiden abgeleitet, darunter auch (472) Roma, für die damals Werte von 47,3 km bzw. 0,21 erhalten wurden.<sup id="cite_ref-3" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-3"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>3<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Mit dem Satelliten <a href="Midcourse_Space_Experiment" title="Midcourse Space Experiment">Midcourse Space Experiment</a> (MSX) wurden 1996 bis 1997 im Rahmen der Infrared Minor Planet Survey (MIMPS) Daten gewonnen, aus denen Werte für den mittleren Durchmesser und die Albedo von 50,5 km bzw. 0,19 bestimmt wurden.<sup id="cite_ref-4" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-4"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>4<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Eine Auswertung von Beobachtungen durch das Projekt <a href="Wide-Field_Infrared_Survey_Explorer#Zweite_Durchmusterung_NEOWISE_und_Stilllegung" title="Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer">NEOWISE</a> im nahen <a href="Infrarotstrahlung" title="Infrarotstrahlung">Infrarot</a> führte 2011 zu vorläufigen Werten für den Durchmesser und die Albedo im sichtbaren Bereich von 50,3 km bzw. 0,19.<sup id="cite_ref-5" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-5"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>5<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Nachdem die Werte 2012 auf 43,8 km bzw. 0,25 korrigiert worden waren,<sup id="cite_ref-6" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-6"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>6<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> wurden sie 2014 auf 50,3 km bzw. 0,19 geändert.<sup id="cite_ref-7" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-7"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>7<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>Eine <a href="Spektroskopie" title="Spektroskopie">spektroskopische</a> Untersuchung von 820 Asteroiden zwischen November 1996 und September 2001 am <a href="La-Silla-Observatorium" title="La-Silla-Observatorium">La-Silla-Observatorium</a> in Chile ergab für (472) Roma eine taxonomische Klassifizierung als S- bzw. K-Typ.<sup id="cite_ref-8" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-8"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>8<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p><a href="Photometrie" title="Photometrie">Photometrische</a> Messungen des Asteroiden fanden erstmals statt vom 24. Oktober bis 14. November 1999 am Observatório do Pico dos Dias in Brasilien und an der Estación Astrofísica de Bosque Alegre in Argentinien. Aus der während drei Nächten aufgezeichneten <a href="Lichtkurve" title="Lichtkurve">Lichtkurve</a> wurde eine <a href="Rotationsperiode" title="Rotationsperiode">Rotationsperiode</a> von 9,60 h abgeleitet. Andere Perioden im Bereich von 7 bis 10 Stunden konnten jedoch nicht ausgeschlossen werden.<sup id="cite_ref-9" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-9"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>9<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Weitere Beobachtungen vom 5. bis 13. Juli 2002 während fünf Nächten am Crescent Butte Observatory in Utah konnten dieses Ergebnis aber mit einem verbesserten Wert von 9,801 h bestätigen,<sup id="cite_ref-10" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-10"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>10<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> ebenso wie weitere Messungen am 30. Mai und 1. Juni 2014 am Center for Solar System Studies (CS3) in Kalifornien mit einer abgeleiteten Rotationsperiode von 9,795 h.<sup id="cite_ref-11" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-11"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>11<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>Aus archivierten Daten des <a href="Asteroid_Terrestrial-impact_Last_Alert_System" title="Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System">Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System</a> (ATLAS) aus dem Zeitraum 2015 bis 2018 wurde in einer Untersuchung von 2020 für den Asteroiden eine Rotationsachse mit <a href="Rechtl%C3%A4ufig_und_r%C3%BCckl%C3%A4ufig" title="Rechtläufig und rückläufig">prograder</a> Rotation und einer Periode von 9,79646 h berechnet.<sup id="cite_ref-12" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-12"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>12<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>Vom 7. bis 29. September 2019 erfolgte am Astronomischen Observatorium der <a href="Universit%C3%A4t_Siena" title="Universität Siena">Universität Siena</a> in Italien eine Bestimmung der Rotationsperiode zu 9,792 h.<sup id="cite_ref-13" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-13"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>13<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Um mehr Daten zur Berechnung eines Gestaltmodells zu liefern, gab es noch einmal eine koordinierte Beobachtung innerhalb der Italian Amateur Astronomers Union (UAI) vom 25. Januar bis 19. März 2021 während acht Nächten an vier Observatorien der Italian Amateur Astronomers Union (UAI), die zur Bestimmung einer Rotationsperiode von 9,796 h führte.<sup id="cite_ref-14" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-14"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>14<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>Zwischen 2012 und 2018 wurden mit der <i>All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae</i> (ASAS-SN) auch photometrische Daten von 20.000 Asteroiden aufgezeichnet. Auf mehr als 5000 davon konnte erfolgreich die Methode der konvexen Inversion angewendet werden, darunter auch (472) Roma, für die in einer Untersuchung von 2021 ein verbessertes dreidimensionales Gestaltmodell für zwei alternative Rotationsachsen mit prograder Rotation und einer Periode von 9,7964 h berechnet wurde.<sup id="cite_ref-15" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-15"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>15<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Aus den Daten von ATLAS konnte in einer Untersuchung von 2022 mit der Methode der konvexen Inversion noch einmal eine Rotationsperiode von 9,7963 h bestimmt werden.<sup id="cite_ref-16" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-16"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>16<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>Am 8. Juli 2010 erfolgte eine <a href="Okkultation" title="Okkultation">Sternbedeckung</a> des relativ hellen Sterns 3. Größe <a href="Delta_Ophiuchi" title="Delta Ophiuchi">δ Ophiuchi</a> durch den Asteroiden (472) Roma für maximal 5,6 Sekunden. Das Ereignis war in einem schmalen Sichtbarkeitspfad, der von Bolivien über den Atlantik und Spanien bis nach Finnland führte, zu beobachten.
